Evidence and Scene Analysis - Finding What Matters

Examining scenes and studying evidence are the confirmed investigation verbs of Death at Fleming Manor. How to read a 1959 crime scene.

11/3/2026 DFM Wiki Team Last updated: 11/3/2026 2 min read

Two verbs define the investigation: examine each scene, study the evidence. Both are official, both come before the certificate. You are reading rooms the way a doctor reads a body — systematically, not dramatically. (Source: Steam store page)

What Is Confirmed?

  • Scene examination — visiting and studying the death sites.
  • Evidence study — analyzing what the scenes yield.
  • The output feeds death certificates and emergency reports. (all: official page)

Evidence types, interaction mechanics and analysis tools are in-game content we will not invent.

How a Coroner Reads a Room (community estimates, genre habits from Obra Dinn / Golden Idol)

  • Start wide, then narrow. Full sweep of the scene before touching any single object — positions, relationships, sightlines. The body is one exhibit in a room of exhibits.
  • Everything placed is placed deliberately. In this genre, if the developer put it in the scene, it is either evidence or atmosphere designed to look like evidence — both are information. See our deduction guide.
  • Contradictions are the gold. A detail that disagrees with the obvious story is the story’s exit door. “Unexpected twists” are a verified reviewer promise (QuestDaily, 9/10 — official page); contradictions are how twists announce themselves early.
  • The scene is static; your reading is not. Return to a scene after a new fact — the room will look different to a better-informed coroner.

The Evidence-to-Form Pipeline (community framing of official loop)

The official loop is a pipeline: scene → evidence → form. The practical discipline: only write on the certificate what the pipeline has delivered — no skipping stages. If the pen stalls, the scene has more to give. (loop: official; discipline: community)

FAQ

Is there an inventory or notebook? Not documented — the certificates themselves may serve as the notebook. (community note)
